Hi @Siegfried von Walheim Thanks for the titles and for the playlist (very thoughtful of you), it'll take me some time to go through them all but since music is a big part of my life it's going to be fun I'm sure. Oh, yes. Plenty of underrated gems, awaiting discovery. (littered with disappointments along the road) Barnsley

nvidia Self drivin' learnin' the way you do (... creepy)
barn replied to barn's topic in Science & Technology
It's a lot of time spend keeping up to date with progress in artificial intelligence if it's not your field. The only thing I'm wary (and annoyed by) is people taking offense. I went and checked it out. Well, probably we can agree on that people who aren't for you learning/understanding as much as possible, aren't interested in your wellbeing, aren't self-policing, if you are honest and straightforward they aren't empathetic to it... Ergo, their argumentation isn't preferable even if it holds the best truths available in that moment. Getting emotional and mudslinging is a sign of 'he/she lost it', emotional bias. Though it's perfectly understandable and because those who recognise such personal (temporary) flaws, we're able to make amends and re-engage in a healthier approach anew. Otherwise, floccinaucinihilipilification, my dude(respectfully). Yes, I can see why I was wrong. Thanks. Gotcha. Sure, that clarified it. I see what you had meant now. of my -> because you had written -> and I thought (highlighted) are from an objective standpoint 'dreamed up', of course not entirely but principally yes. But wouldn't that be according to your preconceived set of definitions? Other systems might interpret things differently. The movies 'Arrival' and 'Interstellar' comes to mind. (unconceivable sets of 'language' prior to realisation of differing inertia systems) p.s.{You're making my mind work on full steam, I'm 'having a ball'. Appreciate it.}- 10 replies

Hi If I had to guess, I would say you're referring to consistency achieved according to your standards in habits that you deem beneficial on the long run*. Like a healthy maintenance routine, such as daily exercises where you aren't skipping sets or components in your workout. Or keeping your place tidy... etc. Did I get what you've meant? -> There's a comforting element<1,2,3> to it <1> when we are in the dynamic of repeating an action we've seen had brought about a positive outcome in the past, we managed to perform something successfully (even if partially). We remember how it played out, what was invested for what result achieved and therefore duplication isn't as hard compared to an unknown current scenario where you must possess faith too(my focus isn't faith) . Variations of this include, a past accomplishment that wasn't the same but <2> 'similar enough' to our new challenge (=that's why we're now extrapolating, assuming therefore probably also doable) or if a fellow man, like you mentioned.. <3> When ourself is compared to others in a much broader sense with less information available (resulting in lower probability assessed/gained due to the external nature vs. internal-experience-memory related experiences) I look at willpower as the essential ingredient in encounters where the outcome is outside of empirical data, acting is hard and the whole encounter is post-decision. It doesn't matter if in the process things don't go swimmingly, we had made a decision to find out + have faith, so it's irrelevant what is 'at the end' (we can only be hopeful). I might however get this whole thing wrong. <a> Is it correct that desire is priori and requisite of a decision(ie. no decision is made without zero assessment of preferences/incentives). <b> I don't think so. You can recognise previously unseen incentives but it's like this: 'Nobody tries to circumvent an obstacle that hasn't been noticed' <c> This is something I struggle myself with and hope to uncover the truth or enough information to better understand it. Currently I believe that willpower is running parallel to it, though falls behind and 'failure' is observed. <d> Perhaps they're essentially the same, acting on belief in harmony with a preferred outcome. Sure, there's the difference of deferral and flight/fight and other mechanisms in play but both are 'for something we desire to'. {highlighted} That's a very important fact, while I think it is only relevant to the assessment one makes in hindsight, not to performing willpower itself (you're speaking about what an end result is seen as, not how an action is being carried out). Obviously, afterwards, he'll have to recognise the incompetence of the people who provided him with that map(or lack of connection) and his own failing for choosing appropriate 'helpers', furthermore the fact that he made a huge investment in an endeavour that resulted in a complete failure (regarding his end goal) Sigh... he could have picked a random direction instead, even that would have been more probable to work out) Self-efficiency: Right-o. So, self-efficiency is basically a positive response to personal incentives, part and parcel of the decision making process. ie. I am crossing the desert tomorrow, I should go to sleep early not (self-sabotage) stay up late. Thanks for your inputs, it has helped me a lot.

How to Explain Implications of DACA to Normies?
barn replied to Will 001's topic in General Messages
Hi @Will 001 A few pointers... Football fans: How would your favourite team perform if the managers decided to let anyone play, no prior training required? Would you be willing to continue with your subscription to that fan-club? Other people : How many languages do you speak(statistics)? Would you be able to learn a new one in a couple of months(statistics)? What about in those countries (statistics)? How important it is to speak the language when looking for work(statistics)? Who pays for the bills meanwhile(statistics)? Would you pay for my bills if I couldn't guarantee I'll learn the language, find a work within (statistics)years? Do you care about the youth, young adults? Yes, no? How important low-entry-level jobs are in the kick-starting of the youth's career(statistics) ? Will people who mainly suited for those jobs help or decrease the chances of the youth starting out, standing on their own two feet, developing life skills, becoming independent(self-evident) ? -
Hi @Siegfried von Walheim I'm sorry, but am none of those (UPB, mathematician neither, if you can prove I'm 'talking out of my armpit' please do tell) although I think I might have some valuable contribution to add. Short version: There's no purely objective or subjective morality and there's no 'final definition' of morality. (Is that my final definition? Is it true that there's... no, I don't claim to be sure) Mortality is like the vehicle that gets upgraded/changes over time to better suit the needs of the driver who doesn't always know what each alteration will do in regards to the journey. To make things even worse, there's a number of upgrades that while seemingly grant a great deal of benefit, most likely will end the journey prematurely for its unseen consequences down the road. Aaand... we are social beings, dependent on each other, and so on... no isolation but interconnectedness. To your question about murder : Yeah, it's always immoral. Even in self-defense. Why get born on the first place if not to exist? Longest version of all-time: Sure, the answer is 42. (Well, obviously not, but you can get a fun time out of reading Douglas Adams's Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a great sci-fi imo very wittily written.) Whenever such humongous questions are brought up, I have the need to simplify it to the point of "known unknown" and the following is how I perceive its utility. Life and morality is about the journey, not the end goal. Sure, we can't tell the exact location of our destination (Zeno's paradox of ad infinitum,or can we*? ) (Also Plank's shortest distance isn't the shortest... plank sized right angled triangle) but that doesn't mean there's no good or bad direction. Or that we get to convert good morals into bad ones(I think it is only possible to throttle intensity). It only means that we can make our current position seem closer or further by choosing ideals accordingly. Relatively closer/farther goalposts makes our progress seem less moral/immoral. (Confirmation will only come when we think we 'got there', then rinse and repeat because we never did arrive, just seemingly = same as a movie you've never seen and about to watch, the expectations you go into the cinema with, the question of watching another flick from the same director in the future or not upon reflection, people with different preferences rate genres differently, perception changing over time... etc. .) BUT That doesn't mean it is possible to negate the effect the movie has on the audience in that very moment. The reality of the experience it occurred, no matter how it's being assumed before /interpreted after; it exists and can't be explained away. Only compared to. It doesn't matter if you perceive *morality as 1/3=0.333.. or 0.999../3=0.333.. both has the same result and therefore it's logical though paradoxical to assume 0.999..=1 which is aaah! ... unconceivable, however I am sort of glad humanity has evolved with some capacity to handle bias to a certain degree (or perhaps we are too good at it, see the plethora of cognitive dissonances). Ultimately it's an irrelevant question if morality/God(s) exist, because we will never get a satisfactory answer. We are here to search but not to find ultimate and solely objective/subjective answers. That's why I think Christianity and the scientific method goes exactly in the same direction, two flavours of the same ice cream. Neither are going to give a better answer to 0.999..=1?, it's the experience in the present we spend figuring it out, is what matters.

Hi @alerdz5 Thanks. That's a great contribution.(me thinks) Can we say that willpower is only valuable when something that we aim to perform or reach has not been possible before, based on our current assessment(especially if we don't know whether anyone has acquired it, or we can't formulate probabilities)? How much does desire differ from the decision, the choice of pursuit? I think I know what you mean, here ie. If our aim is to cross a desert, ample preparation for the journey is required in order to increase the likelihood of success over the probability of lack of preparation resulting (and causal) in having to turn back. (if my analogy is harmonious with your idea put forward...) How one reaches validation in self-efficiency if the feat hasn't been performed before? Could it be solely faith? We can't assess self-efficiency post completion as it would be a requirement ahead of everything, wouldn't it be?

barn replied to Elizbaeth's topic in Self Knowledge
I am a strong believer of 'pay me now or pay me later, but you will pay either way' principle and was wondering if you had started out on a journey that would end up the two of you sharing more thoughts(even starting you sharing this very same community with him). Maybe it is what you see on your end, I don't know. It's just that this temporary relief could trick you into thinking that the past is farther away when it's only in the 'parking orbit slowly inching closer to become a meteor crashing down unexpectedly' . But that's just me, I could be overthinking, dramatising it. -
What Women Actually Want in a Man
barn replied to MysterionMuffles's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Hi @eschiedler Those are some harsh carpet-napalm-blankety words mate. It sounds (I might be completely off) like you're saying women are (although I am certain you can find amongst) vain, weak-willed, carbon copies of the same, limited intellectually. At least that's what you wrote about, by the looks of it. Barnsley -
3953 The Immigration Debate | Adam Kokesh and Stefan Molyneux
barn replied to n25an's topic in General Messages
Hi thinkers and alike, Slippery, lubricant immersed, wet fish in moist hands. Trying to get a grab... It always amazes me when people come to debates not having prepared properly while knowing that millions of (and billions, the Internet can't forget) people will watch it. UnbeLIevable. Up until today, I have NEVER skipped listening/watching(a third) ANY FDR video/audio before,... drumroll... ta-da! 1st for everything and it's especially memorable. Not sure if Adam would be happy to know the why's, but to the mighty FDR community I think it is good if I share. In brief, of course... ° (Adam!) There should be (universally preferable) NO TRY OF EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION in a philosophical debate. It's a waste of time, Stefan had to deflect it several times wasting precious face-time. Also, kinda comes off as being insecure... very insecure in fact (due to the multiple occasions)... don't do that! ° arguing semantics (Adam) over principles (Stefan) is a sign of weaseling out to me. Boooring. Amateur, especially knowing it's a high ball Stefan can't miss. And he didn't. Each and every time. ° going against arguments for the sake of demolishing them only makes sense if there's a superior one to be recommended instead with REASON & EVIDENCE (not magical thinking... er, no. Uhm... That's not what Adam did... scrap that 'think' part.... let's say better 'MAGIC' , just. According to his argumentation-fog-hot-air) ° I know he doesn't like (Adam) statistics but to even assume that his (how many times did he repeat the word 'subjective' anyway? Geez... ) anecdotes can measure up in a debate about economics, sociopolitical topic? ... flochinochinihilipilification my friend! ° "convicted fellon", All-right. No worries mate(could be solely bad luck, am unfamiliar with the story/facts) , however even if you can't (legally) own guns, have no skin in the game (no pay-e tax-e, no kids)... How am I to assume that when the 'push comes to shove' you'll walk the walk? ° I'm sorry if I sound too harsh but having thought that I understood what Liberitarians had meant, am I to assume that it includes mysticism now also? (or that Adam is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM represents any Liberitarian values?) ° To Stefan Molyneux, Dear Sir: PLEASE GIVE A DEFINITION OF 'FRIEND' Barnsley P. s. {I honestly have my fingers crossed that many thousands of people (sorry, can't call them Liberitarians if they 'follow' this guy... Just can't...not even if red snow...cringe) will watch Stefan's presentations. I'll include them for their merit and clear-cutting properties here below as well. Once more.} Stefan Molyneux : ° The Truth About Immigration: What They Won't Tell You ° The Truth About America's Survival | Demographics ° The Truth About Illegal Immigrants ° The Truth About Immigration and Welfare ° IQ and Immigration aaaand (worth watching too) ° The Fall of Rome -

[YouTube] Journalists Say The Stupidest Things!
barn replied to Freedomain's topic in New Freedomain Content and Updates
It might have gone under the radar how a growing number of news outlets (Just saw on the page of The Guardian the other day... got surprised.) started asking for donations £1, £5. Could it be that their main sources of income are drying up at an incremental rate thanks to more competition being... khm (free market)... being present? After a bit of research it turns out, they've been trying get more money from readers since Jun, 2016. Hah! Interesting. I mean, it's good news. Surely they'll adopt a new stance and take a '180°' in order to stay in the market of free ideas. Surely they'll be more honest and say, produce more value, catering for their audience. It's possible. Barnsley -
Hi thinkers and alike, Many of you probably have noticed the trend the world is being driven towards by our fellow men & women (and attack helicopters, can't remember the others). "If you want to know who rules over you, all you need to do is just look at who you are NOT allowed to criticise." I mean videos from Count Dankula "update #1" "update #2" "update #3" + bonus (about Scottish Art gallery, a state funded video) "You Can't Fight A Painting" Tim Pool "COUNT DANKULA AND HOW HATE SPEECH LAWS ARE MAKING COMEDY ILLEGAL" In the recent developments regarding the case of a guy who imo unfairly got targeted to be made a precedent, namely Count Dankula, unsettling mechanisms of state power are being uncovered. Moreover, as in Europe there hasn't been a similar case, the court's ruling will be immensely important in similar cases (oh, yeah! as it's aimed at people who are critical of being unfairly prosecuted... there'll be more... much more.) in the future, we could be looking at people getting disenfranchised of the European culture(if that's even possible for some) as a whole at a growing pace. And I'm not talking about edgy memes or territorial scandals... How would you like to live in a world, where 3 out of 4 people you know (family too) could report you to the authorities for 'wrong think' but not just that, you would have zero chance getting any sort of 'innocent until proven guilty' judiciary process as the verdict would already have been made. (Reminds me of the (link) Cardassian law. Sci-fi. Well,... actually, is it?! I'm not sure anymore.) Barnsley P. s. Have you read (link) 'Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn - The Gulag Archipelago' or (link) 'George Orwell - 1984' or seen the movie by (link) 'George Lucas - THX 1138' ???

What Women Actually Want in a Man
barn replied to MysterionMuffles's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Women raise children, men raise adults. It is a relationship, a dynamic based on deferral on merits. The better each parent has internalised virtues(had done their homework, self subscribed), the more chance the relationship has in providing a good framework for the child's individual development and the happier the realm of being a parent-parenting-sharing life becomes. You get what you are willing to pay for and if you think what you have is enough, that's exactly what you were willing to pay for. (the contrary is also true 'ie. don't think', but it can be harder to accept) Happiness is hard to find and hard to keep, therefore it's of outmost importance that one is truthful and remembers that there's an opportunity cost associated with everything. And second, that accepting responsibility brings about capability to allocate responsibility for others too; it means seeing clearly choices having been made. It sounds to me @Spladam that you are willing to pay the price for happiness and if my assertion is correct, MORE POWER TO YOU! Barnsley -
